The thought of practice does not bring the word ‘fun’ to mind and for many beginner golfers, practicing golf can seem tedious.  However, if you want to improve, spending time at the driving range is a must.

Thankfully, it does not have to be boring and there are some great games you can play at the driving range which will not only improve your golf but are also enjoyable.  Today, we have some top driving range games you can play.

If you are on the driving range alone, why spend the time hitting balls aimlessly without a target in mind?  Yes, you can practice technique and aim for a flag on the range but if you really want to focus and do something exciting, why not pretend to play a real golf course?

It can be any course you are familiar with or one you have downloaded from the internet.  Doing this can be a good way of playing a famous golf course you may never have the chance to play for real.  Why not get the course overview of the Old Course St Andrews and play the Open or Augusta National and play the Masters?

It may seem a little silly to pretend you are playing these golf courses but once you get into it you will have a lot of fun and practice using clubs from driver to wedge.

If you are on the driving range with friends you can play a game called Horse.  This game involves one player calling a shot, such as hitting the red target with a 5-iron and then playing the shot.  If the shot is executed successfully, the other player must try to match it and if they fail, they are given a letter, which to start will be an ‘H’.

This continues until one player spells ‘HORSE’ and they lose the game.  This game is a good way to practice several shots under pressure as you aim to match that of your opponent.  It can also be played individually as you nominate a shot and try to match it yourself.  Doing this helps with the consistency of your shots.

If your driving range has flags, you can use them effectively in a game called Pinseeker.  This involves two or more players and you decide on a flag between you and have ten balls each.  The most balls closest to the pin wins the hole and you can move on to a different one.

Pinseeker is a very simple game but it makes you focus on the target and builds pressure as there is little room for error.  Try adding these games to your next visit to the driving range and you will be surprised by how much fun you can have when practicing.
