Do you ever look at other golfer’s bags when on the course and wonder what it is they have in there altogether? Clearly, every golfer will have their choice of clubs in the bag plus some golf balls and tees as this is the basic equipment you need to play a round of golf.
However, what else do experienced golfers have in their bag and what items should you include in your bag for a round of golf?
Firstly, you should only carry the number of golf balls you know you will require. If you are a 30 handicap, are you going to lose 30 balls during a round of golf? Probably not so why carry such a huge number around with you? You do not want to run out of balls but at the same time, you do not need 30.
Always carry a good, clean towel in your golf bag. This should not be any old towel you found at home, you want a towel which is good at retaining water and has ridges which allow you to clean the grooves of your irons during a round of golf.
It’s a good idea to carry a spare golf glove in your bag. If the one you are using tears during a round, you will be happy to have packed a spare one. Even if you are using a brand-new glove and are confident it will last 18 holes, what if you accidentally drop it? These things happen and it’s wise to have a spare one.
Try and keep a roll of athletic tape in your golf bag, as you never know when you may need some. This comes in useful if the grip on one of your clubs happens to come away from the shaft or you have a blister on your finger. Has the sole of your shoe started to come away? Tape it. These may be rare incidents but athletic tape is small and light, making it easy to have in your bag.
Keep a small waterproof windbreaker in your bag, as you never know when the weather may change. By doing this, if the forecast looks good, you can leave your umbrella in the car and call upon the windbreaker should the conditions change unexpectedly. Also, take sun cream with you as its surprising how easily you can burn when playing golf.
Finally, do not forget the painkillers, flask, and snacks. You will get hungry when playing golf and require an energy boost. Do not be left struggling on the back nine holes because you need something to eat so take some granola bars or anything which will keep well in your bag.
You need to keep hydrated when playing golf, so always have some liquid refreshment in your golf bag. In addition, it is surprising how many people end up asking around their group for painkillers because they have a headache or have hurt their wrist playing a shot.
By keeping these items in your golf bag, you will always be prepared on the golf course and can start each round worry free.
