As I mentioned in the stretching article I wrote previously, #stayathome is extremely important at this time, and golf is certainly not a necessity however much we are missing our beloved game. Staying at home actually gives us some time to reflect on our golf game and make decisions about how we want to try and proceed, whether we want to carry the way we are or if we would like to implement changes to better ourselves and our games.
I am a member of a Facebook group that talks about golf, and it has been interesting to see what people are doing with their time and how they are using the extra free time to practice their games. I want to give you a few ideas that you could use to while away a few hours that will also benefit your golf game.
This is a great one if you have kids at home that have expressed a ¡n interest in golf, even if they haven´t creating a mini-golf course in your house is a great way to pass the time, both setting it up and actually playing it. What can you use? Well obviously you can´t drill holes in the floor so place an upturned plastic cup as your target. You can use books, chairs, papers, shoes and saucepans to create the obstacles, but my favourite place to build a hole is the staircase, kids will love watching the ball bounce down the stairs, and you could make the last hole, with a large bucket at the bottom to see who can get a hole in one! Any putting exercises are the easiest to achieve at home as long as you have carpets or a smooth wood floor. A great focus exercise is to throw a small coin on the floor and try to roll the ball over the top of the coin, if you can hit that you can hit the hole!
Another great way of practicing at home is to grab a handful of air-balls or soft balls that won´t damage anything in the house (like windows), if you have enough room, try chipping up the staircase in order, see how far you can get. Another option would be to pitch over chairs, or underneath them to a specific target, each exercise is asking for you to use your imagination, something that is vital in improving your short game out on the course. You could try to chip balls directly into plastic cups, a great landing spot exercise, which will focus you into landing the ball in the right spot to achieve what you want on the course.
Use your imagination and have some fun with the short game at home.
