In a previous article we have talked about the items you should have in your golf bag. These items range from your clubs and balls to athletic tape and painkillers.
However, you may arrive at the golf course believing you are fully prepared, with every item you need in your golf bag but how organised is your golf bag? Could you open a small side pocket for example and know exactly what was in there?
The pace of play on the golf course is very important and you do not want to be holding up players in your group or from the group playing behind you because you are rummaging through your golf bag trying to find something.
So, to prevent that from happening, you must organise your golf bag.
The best way to start is by emptying your golf bag completely. Take it into a room at home and empty everything from the golf bag. You will probably be surprised as to what you will find and one of the most common things people notice when doing this is the number of different golf balls they have in their bag.
Arrange everything into separate piles and see what you have altogether. You will find items you simply do not need and it could be something as small and light as an old score card. However, if you keep leaving these in your bag, they will soon add up and take space for no reason at all.
Decide the things you need to keep from the piles of items you made and discard everything else. If you have three or four gloves, get rid of two as you only need one to play and one other as a back-up.
Now you need to choose which pockets to keep the items you need in your golf bag.
The items you use most when on the golf course, like balls and tees need to be in the pocket which is most easily accessible. The deep pocket is usually the best for golf balls and the side bottom pocket is best for other items like sun cream and pain killers.
Finally, you should organise your clubs and make sure they are in an order which makes them easy for you to find and pull out of your golf bag.
Try organising your clubs by number and use the pockets in the bag to your advantage. Try placing the tallest clubs at the back and the shortest clubs at the front. This should make it easy for you to see all the clubs in your bag.
Keep your woods and long irons in the back compartment, the middle irons in the left-centre and the short irons in the right-centre compartment. The front section can be used for wedges and the putter unless the bag has a separate sleeve for the putter.
Obviously, this configuration will differ depending on the style of bag you have and the 14 clubs you have chosen to play with but it is a good place to start.
Having an organised golf bag will allow you to concentrate on your golf instead of scrambling in your bag looking for a club or some other item.
