With the summer finally upon us across the northern Hemisphere, now is the time to get out there and enjoy playing golf.  With the warmer, longer days, there is no better time to play golf and today, we have some simple tips which will improve your golf game this summer.

If you want to make the best start to your golf the summer, you must know the yardage of each club in your bag.  Knowing how far you can hit the ball with each club will immediately give you more confidence on the golf course.

If you are unsure about how far you can hit the ball with each club, head to the driving range.  If they have the technology to trace the ball distance, great, if not you will need to use the distance markers.  Start with the pitching wedge and hit five balls with each club.  Make a note of the carry distance of each shot and take an average over the five shots.

This will give you a good idea of how far you can hit the ball with each club and you can select a club with confidence without guessing.

To improve as you play throughout the summer, you must keep statistics.  This does not mean making a note of absolutely every piece of information you have available following each shot.  However, you should keep a note of the fairways you hit and miss, how you missed it and work on appropriate measures to combat the missed shots.

You should also make a note of the number of greens you hit in regulation.  Also keep track of how many times you land within 5 feet of the green and if you missed the green, where the ball finished.  It could be in-front, to the left, to the right or behind the green.

Keeping this information will allow you to work on the areas of your game which need a little improvement and will help to lower your score.

Putting can make or break a round of golf and there is a simple thing you can do to try and improve the line of your putting this summer.  To see if you are in control of your putter face, place two tees roughly five inches in-front of the ball.  You can make them as far apart as you want but they should be at least wide enough for the ball to roll through.

Practice putting the ball through the tees.  If you have them close together and you cannot get the ball through, you are setting the ball off on the wrong line and this could see you three-putting on the greens this summer.

Keep working on the line of your putting using the tees until you begin to roll the ball through them with confidence.  You can also set them up on a sloping green and they will help you to see if you are reading the putting surface correctly.
