tips for saving shots

There are many different facets to playing golf and each of them combine to make golf the sport we love.

However, some aspects of playing golf can be extremely technical and while these can be difficult to master, there are other things you can do which are basic in comparison but will help to save you shots.

Today we have some top tips for saving shots.

This first is something which you many not want to do before you have decided you really want to play golf.  If you are a newcomer you may be better off buying some second-hand clubs before making a big investment but once you are in for the long haul, you should get fitted equipment.

The correct club shaft length is very important and you should make sure your irons are fitted first, especially if you have trouble hitting them fat or thin.

You must learn from your mistakes on the golf course.  If you have dropped shots attempting the same shot from a certain position on the course, perhaps it is time to try something else and see if it leads to a better result?

Try and eliminate playing two shots to get on the green.  You do not always need to go for the pin and sometimes you are better off playing a conservative shot and getting the ball on the putting surface first time rather than attacking a tricky pin and seeing your ball travel off the green.

The same applies when playing out of bunkers.  How often have you and other players taken two shots to get out of a standard bunker?  This is a massive waste of a shot and you should always take your time and concentrate on getting the ball out first time, as these shots soon add up on the scorecard.

Do not three-putt when on the green.  It is not compulsory to try and hole every putt if your ball is on the green.  Sometimes the ball is too far away from the hole to have a realistic chance of dropping in and the undulations of the green can make putting from long distance very tricky.

If you are left with a long, breaking putt try and think about making sure you are left with an easy second putt and eliminate the dreaded three-putt from your game entirely.

Finally, always try and plan what you are going to do during your practice time.  Do not head to the driving range without something in mind.  Think about the aspects of your game which need to improve and concentrate on those.  Perhaps your putting was off, in which case spend some time on the practice green and work out what went wrong.

Never waste your practice time, as it is the only chance you have to work on your game and improve ahead of your next round.

Keep these tips in mind and hopefully you can save some shots next time you are on the golf course.
